Love sewing, but not sticking together a pile of paper? Our A0 Sewing Pattern Printing service turns your large-format pattern file into neatly folded sheets, ready for your next project. Here’s how to choose the right file and prepare your order.
A0 versus tiled A4: which file do you need?
A downloadable sewing pattern may include several files. The A4 or print-at-home version splits the pattern across small pages that you trim and tape together. An A0 version lays the pattern out on large sheets, avoiding that assembly step.
Look for a file labelled A0, copyshop or large format, then check the designer’s instructions and the PDF page dimensions. A0 measures 841 × 1189 mm. A file called “copyshop” is not automatically A0, so check rather than relying on the filename alone.
Send the original A0 PDF supplied by the pattern designer, rather than a photograph, screenshot or a scan of the A4 pages. If your download arrives as a ZIP folder, extract it first and find the A0 PDF inside. Keep the instructions separate from the pattern sheets.
We cannot currently stitch tiled A4 patterns together into A0. If you only have the A4 version, check your download library or ask the designer whether an A0 file is available. Don’t enlarge the A4 pages to fill A0 sheets: that would change the size of the pattern.
Count pages, not patterns
One pattern can contain several A0 pages. Open the A0 PDF and count the sheets before ordering. Our upload system does not detect the number of A0 pages, so you must choose the matching page count in the Size dropdown yourself.
At the time of writing, greyscale printing costs £1.75 per A0 page and full colour costs £2 per A0 page. For example, a three-page pattern costs £5.25 in greyscale or £6 in colour. Check the service page for current prices.
Add each different pattern to your basket separately with its own correct page count and colour choice. Don’t select one page simply because you are ordering one pattern.
Colour or greyscale?
Greyscale is a lower-cost choice when you can clearly distinguish sizes using solid, dotted and dashed lines. Full colour can be helpful when the designer uses different colours to identify sizes or overlapping pieces. Check the pattern’s size key before deciding, especially if several lines have the same style.
If the PDF has layers and you would like a specific layer printed, add that request in the notes box. Identify the size or layers clearly, and keep any essential pattern markings included.
How to upload and order your A0 pattern
- Open your original A0 PDF and check the pattern name, page dimensions and total A0 page count.
- Go to the A0 printing service page to upload your pattern.
- Choose the correct number of A0 pages in the Size dropdown and select Greyscale or Full Colour.
- Upload the matching pattern file on the listing. Add any specific layer request in the notes box.
- Add it to your basket, then repeat separately for each additional pattern. Check the page counts and colour choices before checkout.
Alternatively, email your pattern to sales@littlelegsfabrics.co.uk with your order number so we can match it to your purchase. You can also add fabrics and other products to the same order for despatch together.
Actual size and the scale check
Sewing patterns must keep the designer’s intended scale. We print using the “actual size” setting, rather than “fit to page”, and check the scale box after printing.
Before cutting into your fabric, use a ruler to measure the printed test square or scale box against the dimensions stated on the pattern. Measure both directions where applicable. If it doesn’t match, stop and contact us before cutting or sewing. A correctly printed pattern is your starting point; choosing your size and checking fit are separate steps.
Your pattern is printed on 80gsm white paper and neatly folded. If you’d also like printed instructions, the service listing offers an A5 instruction booklet option for £1.95.
